Adopting a BPF Puppy… everything you need to know
ABOUT OUR PUPPIES
The first question I always get is “how much?” So I’ll just answer that one first. Males are $2000 and females are $2500. That is for limited AKC registration. (Limited registration means without breeding rights). I occasionally sell full breeding rights to approved buyers for an additional $500.
The parent dogs have all been genetically health tested and have had OFA testing done on eyes, heart and knees. Pups come with a 1 year health guarantee.
Puppies can go to their new homes at 10 weeks old and will have been dewormed, had 2 sets of vaccinations, and a vet exam.
HOW TO ADOPT ONE OF OUR PUPS
Step 1- APPLY. If you’re interested in adopting one of our puppies, the first step is to fill out an application. Here is a link- https://forms.wix.com/f/6997407566712012808
If I feel that one of our pups would be a good fit for you, I’ll add you to our waitlist, or- if there are available unreserved puppies, you can choose your pup!
Step 2- PLACE A DEPOSIT. To reserve a specific puppy, I require a $200 non-refundable deposit (paid via Venmo, Cashapp, or Zelle). If for some reason you need to back out, I will give you the option to put that deposit toward a pup in a future litter. This deposit holds your puppy and therefore keeps him/her from being adopted by someone else, so please understand the commitment this is. I have had a real problem with people placing deposits and backing out right before pick up day, which then makes it very difficult for me to find that puppy another home.
Step 3- WAIT FOR YOUR PUP. Puppies are ready to go at 10 weeks old. I know the wait can feel like a long time, and you’re excited to meet your new baby. So, at least once a week I email out what I call “pupates.” These emails will be fun and informative. I will let you know how your puppy is progressing, milestones, personalities, etc. I will also update you on vet appointments, explain how to feed your puppy, and other important information. As we get closer to pick up day, we will coordinate plans for how to get your puppy. I always include updated pictures so you can see how your baby is growing.
Step 4- GET YOUR PUPPY FOOD. One of our weekly pupdate emails will explain this in greater detail, but we feed all our dogs PawTree. PawTree is holistic, all-natural dog food. It is made with only real ingredients, there are no fillers or by-products. I recommend the whitefish & brown rice recipe for puppies. It’s what they will be started on at my house. This food is purchased online only so you will need to have some ready at your house before your puppy arrives. This is a direct link if you want to check it out: https://pawtree.com/blackberrypatchfarm.
Step 5- MAKE PICK UP PLANS. I am pretty flexible when it comes to coordinating pick up plans. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer, but I usually offer to drive up to 2 hours in your direction if you’re coming from a long distance. I also have a few recommendations for affordable ground transport companies. So, if this is something you’re interested in, let me know and I can put you in contact with some good people. I will not ship puppies via plane cargo, but am more than happy to send them with a flight nanny. If your pup will be flying or using transport, they’ll require an additional vet visit to get their health certification. I cover that expense, but a bit more planning may be necessary when making travel plans.
Step 6- PICK UP DAY! By this time, we will already have a plan for how to get you your puppy. If you are using a transportation company, I require your balance to be paid in full at least 3 business days before I hand the puppy off to the transport company. I really prefer not sending large amounts of money through payment apps, but it can’t be avoided if we are using transport. If you are meeting me in person, I ask the final balance to be paid in cash when we meet. Your puppy will come with a goodie bag containing a folder with their vet records, our bill of sale/contract, information on pet insurance, and their AKC registration papers. I also send a scent blanket, cow hoof chew, wet wipes, and a toy to help your puppy feel comfortable on the way home.
Step 7- ENJOY YOUR NEW BABY! I love getting puppy updates and hearing from past clients. Please keep me posted on how the little one is doing! Always feel free to reach out with any questions on puppy care, training, etc. When you get a puppy from Blackberry Patch Farm, you can count on lifetime breeder support!
FAQs
How does the waitlist work?
I have a free, no pressure waitlist. It simply means I’ll check in with you periodically and keep you updated on upcoming litters. If I come to your name on the list, and it’s not a good time for you to adopt a puppy- no worries. Life happens. We’ll just keep an open line of communication, and I can circle back around to you next time. If there is a particular color or gender you’re interested in, please let me know so I can keep that in mind when planning my litters.
Can I come visit my puppy before he/she is ready to leave?
We do not allow visitors to our farm at this time. There are several reasons for this- one being our puppies’ health and safety. Very young pups are extremely susceptible to illness. Unfortunately, I’ve learned from experience how quickly these pups can become seriously ill. It’s just not worth the risk. I am always willing to send videos, photos, and FaceTime with you and your pup because I know the wait to pick up day can be hard!
What comes with our new puppy?
Puppies are sent home with a goodie bag containing their health records, AKC registration form, our health contract, a coupon code for a free 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance, a scent blanket, and toy. Sometimes I’ll throw in helpful reading material or samples as well.
What do I feed my puppy?
We feed all our dogs PawTree. PawTree is holistic, all-natural dog food. It is made with only real ingredients, there are no fillers or by-products. I recommend the whitefish & brown rice recipe for puppies. It’s what they will be started on at my house. This food is purchased online only. This is a direct link: https://pawtree.com/blackberrypatchfarm. You will need to create an account and use the code INTRO4U to get 20% off your first order. I suggest putting your food order on Autoship so your food arrives automatically each month.
What about puppy insurance?
I will send your puppy home with a coupon code for a free 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance. You’ll need to activate that within the first 24 hours of getting your puppy to benefit from the free 30 days. We once purchased a puppy who became very ill within the first week we had her, and I was so thankful I had activated the free month! It really is free- they don’t even ask for your payment information. You can choose to keep the coverage or cancel as soon as the 30 days are up. Trupanion has several different policies to choose from, and they work with any vet in the US. More information can be found at www.trupanion.com.
What about training?
I have partnered with a very popular dog training school called Baxter & Bella. It is an online training school that is creative, fun, and effective. They have live classes, videos, podcasts, printouts and you can even chat with a live trainer as many times as you need! You can check them out at www.baxterandbella.com and use the code BLACKBERRYPATCH to get an entire lifetime membership for only $178. That’s 25% off their regular price!
